The ride

Dingli Cliffs are the west coast's answer to everything: a 250-metre limestone wall running for several kilometres with nothing between you and Sicily. The road along the top is quiet, exposed and completely flat once you have earned it, and there is no better place on the island to be at sunset. Ride out through the middle of Malta in the afternoon, take the clifftop road slowly, and watch the sun go into the sea from the chapel at the high point. Lights are included with every rental — you will want them for the run home.

Terrain: Long inland climb, then an exposed clifftop road. Windy. Suggested rental: full day.

Good to know: • Check sunset time and start at least 3 hours before — the ride out is the slow part. • The cliff road is genuinely windy. A light windproof layer makes the difference. • We include front and rear lights. Take them, and take the roadside assistance option for an evening ride.
