The ride

The shortest route we publish, and the right one for a first afternoon, for families, or for anyone who wants to know how the bike handles before committing to a full day. You ride the Sliema seafront, cross to Valletta, loop the peninsula through the gardens and along both harbours, and come back. Valletta is a UNESCO World Heritage site built in one go in the 1500s as a fortress city, and the whole of it fits inside a two-hour ride.

Terrain: Flat seafront promenade and city streets. Family-friendly throughout. Suggested rental: half day.

Good to know: • Republic Street in Valletta is pedestrianised — ride the perimeter roads instead. • The Sliema–Valletta ferry takes bikes and runs every half hour if you want to skip the Msida stretch. • Perfect with the half-day rate and a kids' chair.
